Transportation

Important Arrival and Dismissal Information

As we near the beginning of the new school year, there have been changes in the district’s bus ridership. We understand that this has created some uncertainty as we transition to almost a third of our students becoming car riders, bikers, or walkers. Please visit the CFISD transportation web page to determine your student’s eligibility. The transportation department sent out notices last week concerning your student’s eligibility. If your student will continue to qualify for transportation because you live outside the 2-mile radius, be aware many bus stops have changed. If your student is eligible to ride a bus, please check for their correct stop.

Our afternoon dismissal process will end at approximately 3:30 p.m. We expect all students to either be on a bus, picked up, or walking/biking home by this time. We do not have after-school or before-school care at Arnold Middle School. If possible, please consider working with your friends and neighbors to implement a plan to help with drop off or pick up. Make sure emergency contacts are up to date in HAC, and your student knows who to call if you are detained and running late.

Our arrival and dismissal processes for car riders, walkers, and bike riders are detailed below. Please read carefully understand how students who are a car rider, walker, or bike rider will arrive to or leave campus. We will all need to work together as we transition to this new normal.

Our number one goal is safety! This is followed by efficiently getting students on and off campus. We have put in place great new processes and procedures to achieve our goals. We need everyone to work together to follow them.

Arnold Student Drop Off

Students may not be dropped off before 7:25 am. Club Rewind is not offered for middle school students. We do not have the staff to monitor students before or after school. To help eliminate waiting in very long lines to drop-off/pick-up your student in the car rider line, and for the safety of your student, we suggest that your student ride his/her assigned school bus to and from school or wait to be dropped off in the car rider line at 7:25 a.m. and picked up at 3:10 p.m.

Thank you for your consideration in helping create a safe campus environment.

CAR RIDER PROCEDURES

DOORS TO THE BUILDING DO NOT OPEN UNTIL 7:25 A.M. DO NOT RELEASE YOUR CHILD FROM YOUR CAR BEFORE THIS TIME.

 Arrival

Upon arrival before 7:25 a.m., a single line will form on Telge Road to allow staff to enter the parking lot. At 7:25 a.m. we will begin moving cars forward in a single line to the right of the traffic cones and along the curb. Please pull forward when requested, DO NOT unload your car until all cars have stopped and you have been signaled by our staff to unload in our designated drop-off zone. Our goal is to unload 15-18 cars at a time.

Dismissal

At dismissal, we will have one single line inside the cones and along the curb. Please communicate to your student to exit the building quickly and be looking for their ride. Our goal is to load 15-18 cars at a time. Students will wait behind the red line until all cars are pulled forward and stopped. A staff member will signal for students to proceed to their car.

If your student is not outside, we will ask you to pull into the auxiliary staff parking for “Missed Car Pick-up” as labeled on the map. A staff member will help students cross in front of cars lining up so they may access this area.

If everyone cooperates and follows the procedure, we hope to complete the process in 20 minutes or less. Time your arrival at dismissal time to minimize your wait.

Arnold Walkers

WALKER PROCEDURES

Arrival

Students will be allowed to enter the building at 7:25 a.m. Please do not allow your student to arrive on campus earlier than 7:25 a.m. There will not be supervision, and this is a safety concern. Doors 17 and 18 will be used for student entry. Students should stay to the left of the cones and immediately line up at Door 17 (for breakfast) or Door 18 (no breakfast). Students will report to their assigned location and wait to report to 1st period. All students should be in their 1st period class by 7:45 a.m.

Lastly, students cannot be dropped off in Cy-Fair’s parking lot. This creates an extremely unsafe situation being near our bus loop, cars exiting the car rider line, and high school drivers arriving late to school.

Dismissal

Walkers will be dismissed with car riders. They should exit the front of the building and stay to the right of the cones. There will be a staff member to help students cross in front of cars turning into the parking lot so they may access the crosswalk or continue walking north on Telge Road.

Please do not park in the Cy-Fair parking lot. We will not allow students to walk to that lot due to our bus loop, cars exiting the car rider line, and high school drivers leaving the campus. Students whose parents work at Cy-Fair High School should contact their assistant principal for specific dismissal instructions.

If your child will be walking to school, please talk to them about your expectations for their safety. It is critically important they are aware of the car traffic around them and follow the crosswalk signals when crossing major roads.
